If your denture has started to feel loose, rubs or collects food underneath, a denture reline can quickly restore comfort and confidence. Northern Rivers Denture Clinic Tweed Heads offers hard, soft and temporary denture relines, completed over the course of a single day so you are not without your teeth for long.
We provide denture relines for patients across Tweed Heads, Banora Point, Murwillumbah, Kingscliff and the wider Tweed Coast and Gold Coast regions.

We’ve been helping patients restore comfortable, stable dentures with carefully planned relines for over 45 years.
Relines are completed in one day – drop your denture off at 8:30am and collect it around 4pm.
Our dental prosthetists assess your mouth and denture carefully, then recommend the type of reline that best suits your needs.
Relines are done in our on‑site Tweed Heads dental lab, with item numbers, fees and payment plan options clearly listed.

A denture reline is a thin permanent coating applied to the fitting surface of your denture where it contacts your gums. The reline seals gaps that have developed over time, restoring the snug fit you had when your denture was new.
Why does this matter? Gaps between your denture and gums trap food particles and create instability. This "rocking" motion puts uneven pressure on your denture when you chew, making it vulnerable to cracking and breaking.
Relining your denture compensates for inevitable changes in your mouth caused by ageing, health changes, weight loss, or normal wear on denture surfaces. A reline restores comfort and stability while preserving the lifespan of your denture and your smile.
However, while relines extend your denture's life and maintain optimal fit, comfort and appearance, eventually you'll need a new denture.
We recommend a denture reline every two years for full or partial dentures, though you may need one sooner depending on your circumstances. Regular annual checkups ensure your denture receives maintenance when needed and repairs are completed promptly.

Our prosthetists will assess your needs and recommend the most appropriate reline type. Not all dentures can be relined - while acrylic partial dentures and acrylic full dentures can be relined, some flexible dentures cannot. Only the acrylic section of the chrome denture can be relined.
Full dentures should have a hard reline every two years to extend their lifespan. The process involves applying a pliable material to determine where adjustments are needed, then replacing it with durable acrylic. This restores a close fit and durability.
If you have tender or sensitive gums, a soft reline provides cushioning while your mouth adjusts to wearing dentures. We apply a soft, rubbery material that cushions your gums. Soft relines can last up to two years.
If your gums are sore and inflamed, we'll apply a medicated temporary reline until your gums heal. Because temporary relines aren't heat-cured, they can become discoloured or porous, harbouring bacteria. Regular maintenance prevents the need for temporary relines. Temporary relines must be replaced every 2-6 weeks.

The soft reline material creates a cushioning layer on the denture's fitting surface.
The spongy material used on the soft denture reline, cushioning sensitive gums.

With a little planning, most relines can be done in a single day – you drop your denture off in the morning and collect it newly relined in the afternoon.
We examine your denture and gums, talk through your concerns (looseness, rubbing, food trapping) and confirm whether a reline is the best option.
We take an impression inside your existing denture to record how your mouth and gums are shaped now. This becomes the template for the new lining.
Your denture stays with us while our dental technician team process the new hard or soft lining to remove gaps and restore a close, stable fit. Temporary relines are done in the chair and usually take about 30 minutes.
You return later in the day so we can fit your relined denture, make any fine adjustments, and check your bite and comfort before you go home. Most patients drop their denture off at 8:30am and collect it around 4pm the same day.

Yes, your denture stays with us while we work on it, but only for the day. Many patients plan softer foods for that day or book on a quieter day of the week.
We usually recommend a reline roughly every two years, or sooner if your denture starts to feel loose or your gums change. Regular check‑ups help us pick the right time.
A reline can restore fit and comfort for many years, but if the teeth are very worn or your bite has collapsed, we may recommend new dentures instead. We’ll talk this through with you at your free consultation.
